Wildfire Resources

We know that our physical safety and basic needs are a priority for many of us. While we are focused on keeping our family safe, our children may ask difficult questions or display strong emotions.Ā  It is usual for children to show changes in their mood, behavior, sleep, and appetite after traumatic experiences. One of the best things you can do now is be there with your children. Talk to them and keep small routines if possible. During this time, fun, distracting activities are healthy. While it may be hard, remember that your mental health matters, too. Here are some tools from our national partner to support your childrenā€™s mental health at this difficult time: Natural DisastersĀ andĀ Loss and Change.

Here is a new resource available for you, your neighbors, or other community members in need of childcare resource: LA County Parks is establishing 4 Care CampsĀ that will provide youth and teens with a supportive space for fun and recreation, including music, arts and crafts, sports activities, and field trips to the LA County Natural History Museum, La Brea Tar Pits, Dodger Stadium, and more. Breakfast, snacks, and lunch will be provided daily; teens will also get supper. See their video on the campsĀ here.

These camps are for those under mandatory evacuation or significantly impacted by the fires. They are completely free and will last Monday to Friday from January 13 to January 31, 2025. The hours are as follows: Youth Camps Age 5-12: 8 am to 5 pm and Teen Camps Age 13-17: 8 am to 7 pm. To sign up for a camp, click the age group below:

Some evacuation orders continue to be lifted. The Pasadena Public Health Department urges the community to take action to prevent Eaton Fire ash exposure, per their website. They state: ā€œWith some Eaton Fire evacuation orders being lifted, residents may be further exposed to ash. Being around ash may irritate your eyes, nose, or skin and can cause coughing, asthma attacks, difficulty breathing, and other health effects.ā€ Please wear a mask and limit activities outdoors.

The Planning & Community Development Department offers the following reminder: Fire-damaged structures and debris are hazardous. Any free-standing portions of structures, including chimneys, walls, and overhanging remanence, are potential hazards. Debris and ash may include lead, asbestos, arsenic, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), dioxins, or other hazardous materials. Stay away from any unsafe structures and fire debris. The Planning & Community Development Departmentā€™s Building & Safety Division is continuing to conduct city-wide structural assessments. Please get in touch with Building & Safety at (626) 744-4200 or emailĀ BuildingRecovery@cityofpasadena.net to request a structural evaluation for damages caused by the fire and tree failures.ā€
